Black Tubab (part II

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Thursday june 28th was Mam’s turn. She wanted me to see the other side of Germany, the “country side”, the villages with similar settings: church, Priest’s house and city hall all in the centre, surrounded by farms on one side and vine yards on the other with forests in the background.
On Friday Tariq to picked me up for a tour to Forthzein and to see the famous hill that was made up of the rumbles from the destruction of that city in Second World War. I passed the night at Hugo’s house and worked on my presentation for Friday 26th in Leonberg late into the night after a wonderful dinner with the Hugo family.

WAIT for Black Tubab

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Tubab is the general name for a white tourist in The Gambia, and there is a similar word in Sierra Leone; and we have coined “black tubab” for black tourists as well. Since Tuesday June 26th I have been on non-stop tours. Rolf and I first went to Isabell, we were an hour late but she didn’t complain as she had already been warned about WAIT. She took us to an ancient castle overlooking Eslingen. The next day found us at Hugo’s work place to see the water recycling plant, and we got first hand lectures and actually saw how the whole plant operated. The zoo was next, and it was so exciting being there that we almost lost count of time. Birne, Markus, Uddy and of course “Spiderman” were patiently waiting for us. By now most people had adapted to WAIT (West African International Time) and so there was no need for us to give any excuses for being late. We even got a warm welcome as we left Birne’s office for yet another tour of the city of Stuttgart. The tour was rounded up by watching action man Bruce Wulis in “live well or die hard” at small KINO (cinema). To be continued…..

Khloster Festival

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

The big day is here at last, the Kloster festival! strange looking dresses you see only in the movies all over the place. They say these were worn in medeaval times, and the whole idea was to bring history to life. I had a typical African outfit and sure enough that drew some attention, especially when the Mayor announced my name over the loud speaking system as we approached the center where he was announcing the arrival of different groups. He spoke in english at this point in time, for my benefit and other english speakers I guess, that here comes Fun And Fairplay and a special welcome to Mr Usman Kuraisy all the way from Gambia, Afrika.

Crazy meets Mayor Felchle

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Today, Friday 22nd June is my third day in maulbronn. Biggest event for the day was the meeting with the Mayor of Maulbron, Mr Andy Felchle. And then "Juma" (Friday) Prayers for muslims at a nearby mosque, the only one in town. In the evening, Roth (the only sister of the Langohrs) and I joined other FAF members in setting up the tents and other items in readiness for the great Kloster Festival, which, among other things, is the reason for my being here. We've been working at the FAF site since Wednesday, the very day I landed in Maulbronn(quite an unusual way to welcome a guest from nearly 3000 miles!!!)

Crazy in Deutschland

Taxonomy upgrade extras:
