In Eriwan gießt es ohne Ende. Rechtzeitig zur Ankunft von Isabel lässt der Regen nach. Kleine Entschädigung für ihre turbulente Chaos-Anreise via Moskau. Doch das Wetter bleibt leider trübe und der Ararat meist in Wolken. Noch einen Tag bewundern wir die dicken Autos und verlustieren uns auf dem Rummelplatz der armenischen Hauptstadt, dann reisen wir weiter zum Garni-Tempel und zum Sevan-See.
Die Höhe macht sich bemerkbar und die Nachttemperaturen nahe dem Kloster Sevanvank sind schon empfindlich niedrig. Weiter in Dilidjan ist es auch nicht viel angenehmer, also lassen wir uns ein "feines" Hotel raus. Laut Reiseführer hat das "Haus der Cinematografen" eine tolle Lage ueber dem Aghstev-Tal. An der Lage gibt es nichts auszusetzen, doch die Piste zum Hotel ist unterirdisch und wie es scheint sind wir die ersten Gäste seit Wochen. Ein riesiges halbverfallenes Hotel in kitschigem Sowjetstil, das Platz für 200-300 Gäste bietet, bewacht von einer einsamen Hausmeisterin und wir sind allein in den verstaubten Räumlichkeiten. Alles etwas bizarr, aber als Ausgangslage zum wunderschönen Kloster Haghartsin ist unsere Herberge eine prima Ausgangsbasis.

In the phantom hotel
It’s pouring heavily in Yerevan! Just in time for Isabel’s arrival, it stops, which is kind of a compensation for her chaotic trip via Moscow. Nevertheless, the weather continues being cloudy and, hence, Mount Ararat is overclouded. We stay one more day in Yerevan, admiring the big cars and having fun on the fairground, and then we travel to the Garni Temple next to Lake Sevan.
Up there, near the monastery of Sevanvank, we notice the altitude because of the low night temperatures. A bit further, in Dilidjan, it’s not quite better and therefore we decide to stay overnight in a “good” hotel. According to our guidebook, the location of the ‘House of the Cinematographs’ is very viewy, just above the Aghstev valley. Well, the location is really very nice, however, the street going there is in very bad condition and it seems as if we were the first guests in several weeks. The hotel, somewhat kitschy and clearly decayed, is guarded by a lonesome lady and despite of a capacity for 200 to 300 guests, we are the only ones in these dusty rooms. It’s a bit bizarre, but it’s also a good starting point for our excursion to the Haghartsin Monastery.
