Ein weiteres Unesco-Weltkulturerbe wartet auf uns, das Dogon-Land. Westlich von Mopti, nahe an der Grenze zu Burkina Faso erstreckt sich das Bandiagara-Hochplateau, Heimat des legendenumrankten Volkes der Dogon. Der für afrikanische Verhältnisse enorme Tourismus hat dieser Region und seinen Bewohnern sicher viel von seinem Charme und seiner Authenzität genommen. Trotz allem ist ein Besuch dieser Gegend ein Höhepunkt jeder Mali-Reise.
Wir entscheiden uns für eine dreitägige Wandertour entlang der östlichen Abbruchkante des Felsplateaus Richtung Norden. Augangsort ist Bandiagara, die wichtigsten Stationen sind Kani Kombole, Ennde, Indelou und Binematou. Unser Führer ist vom Stamme der Dogon und spricht neben etlichen lokalen Dialekten ein erstaunlich gutes Englisch. On foot through the Dogon country Another UNESCO cultural world heritage is waiting for us: the Dogon country. In the west of Mopti, close to the border with Burkina Faso, there is the elevated plain of Banidagara, the home of the legendary people of the Dogon. Surely, the --for African circumstances-- ernormous tourism has affected the charme and authenticity of the region and its people. Nonetheless, the visit of this area is a real highlight of any trip to Mali.
We decide to do a three days' hiking tour northwards on the eastside of the plateau. Our starting point is Bandiagara and the most important villages we come through are Kani Kombole, Ennde, Indelou, and Binematou. Our guide, a Dogon, speaks, in additioin to local languages and dialects, an amazingly good English.
